What’s happening in August

The Pro12 becomes Pro14

The league had a lot of the changed in its time. It is a rugby league containing the top Irish, Welsh, Scottish, and Italian teams. It used to be called the Celtic league, only containing teams from Ireland, Scotland and Wales which was formed in 2001. The highest number of teams it had was 16 and the lowest it had was 10 teams when the Italians joined. Now two South African teams have joined, the Cheetas and the Southern Kings.

Pro14

The teams will be split into two seven-team conferences – two Irish, two Welsh and one each from Scotland, Italy and South Africa. The teams in each conference will play each other home and away. The teams okay the teams from the other conference only once, expect if it is a derby team, they play the derby teams twice, derby meaning from the same country. So, there will be a total of 21 games for each team.  Ospreys, Munster, Glasgow, Zebre, Connacht, Cheetahs and Cardiff Blues are in conference A while Edinburgh, Treviso, Southern Kings, Leinster, Dragons, Scarlets, Treviso and Ulster make up conference B. This will change every year according to the standing at the end of the season. There will be a playoff system to determine to winner. The two teams that top the conferences will enter the semi-finals while the last two spots will be determined by the second and third placed teams playing each other.  The top 7 non-South African teams will qualify for the Champions Cup while the other 5 European sides will enter the Challenge Cup. Quite a mouthful.

Mayweather was immediately made the overwhelming favourite to win the fight by bookmakers across the world. He boasts a flawless professional record of 49-0, while McGregor has never previously been involved in a boxing match. You can see the odds for the match on wincomparator.

Although the Irishman is a two-weight world champion in MMA, he has not boxed since the age of 16. Mayweather is regarded as one of the best defensive boxers to have ever lived. If Mayweather defeats Conor, he will pass Rocky Marciano, who also retired at a 49-0 record. Mayweather has never lost a fight, and has only been knocked to the ground once, in a fight he still won by unanimous decision. Most people will feel Conor has no chance, and they are probably right as this fight will purely be a boxing match with no MMA rules. Who do you think will win?
