June 2017 is ending, the transfer market is opening

This is the biggest tennis tournament of the year and also the oldest tennis tournament, held in London from the last week of June to the first week of July. It is played on grass and is the last important tournament to be played on this surface. The title holders are Andy Murray in the men’s and Serena Williams in the women’s. Roger Federer is one of the most successful artists in the world. He will surely be one of the favorites after winning the French open recently. Andy Murray is on the top of the ATP. Stan Wawrinka, Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer all make the top 5 list. Angelique Kerber leads the WTA rankings with title holder Serena Williams in 4th.


Andy Murray feels very confident ahead of the completion after his great recent form. He is a man who prefers the grass courts and was very pleased with his performance in the French open which was a clay court where he reached the semi-finals.  He will be aiming to win Wimbledon for the third time. “For me, it is obviously always going to be the biggest tournament during the year,” claimed Murray in a recent interview. The home nation, England will be expecting him to win and equal Fred Perry’s record of 3 Wimbledon victories.

Transfer Rumors

The transfer window is the period during the year in which a football club can transfer players from other countries into their playing staff. Such a transfer is completed by registering the player into the new club through FIFA. France, Germany, Italy and Spain’s window is from 1 June – 31 August and England start from 1 July to 1 September.

It was confirmed on Friday 9th June that Zlatan Ibrahimović has been released by Manchester United after scoring 28 goals and winning the League Cup and the Europa League with the club last season. As important as he was to Man United, he is currently undergoing rehab for a serious knee injury and is not expected back until well into next season. The United States is a popular destination these days for players in the twilight of their careers. You just have to look at recent examples of Gerrard, Lampard, Pirlo et al.


Cristiano Ronaldo may be leaving Real Madrid very soon. Ronaldo was sued by the prosecutor’s office for a tax evasion estimated at 14.7 million euros and he is deciding to leave Spain because of it.

Several rumours have already been released regarding possible offers for CR7 this summer. With figures ranging between 180 and 200 million euros. In Europe, PSG and Manchester United have been regularly cited among the clubs most interested in the past and seem to be the only ones to be able to carry out this type of financial operation. The Chinese clubs are also capable. According to the Daily Mirror Manchester United will offer £183m plus their 26-year-old goalkeeper David de Gea in exchange for Ronaldo and Spain striker Alvaro Morata. Alternatively, United will offer Spain international De Gea and £175m for Ronaldo and pursue Morata, 24, in a separate deal.

Diego Costa has been told club want to sell him. The 28 year old was Chelsea’s top scorer in the premier league this year after scoring 20 goals but Antonio Conte has told Costa that he will be sold. Costa has said he would like to return to Atletico Madrid but that is not possible until January as the Spanish team is banned from buying players this summer. In January Costa was offered 30 million a year in salary from China and that is likely again.

Everton made Jordan Pickford the most expensive British goalkeeper in history. Everton bought him for £30 m from Premier league relegates Sunderland. Pickford is only 23 years old and is on duty with England Under-21s in the European championships.  Fraser Forster was the last British goalkeeper record when Southampton paid £10 m from Celtic.


British & Irish Lions on tour in New Zealand

The British and Irish Lions are a rugby union team selected from players in England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. The team tours every four years, usually to the southern hemisphere teams like New Zealand, South Africa and Australia. They play the home nations three times and whoever wins best out of three is the winner. They wear a red jersey representing Wales, with white shorts representing England. The socks are blue with a green stripe representing Scotland and Ireland. The Lions last test series in 2013 was won 2-1 over Australia while the 2009 test series was lost 2-1 to South Africa. The Lions coach is Warren Gatland, who is the Welsh national team coach. The captain is Sam Warburton, also Welsh.  The Lions tour is huge in Britain and Ireland and is a great way show the powerful southern hemisphere countries the talents they have. The team selections is mainly judged on how the teams do in the 6 nations. The 6 nations is a competition help every year including England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, France and Italy.


The Lions take on New Zealand in the 2017 tour. They play 6 warm up matches before they face the all blacks. These warm up matches are against clubs in the New Zealand league. These should be much easier tasks before facing the best rugby team in the world. The Lions have only won one test series against the All Blacks, losing the other 10. They face the all blacks on the 24th June, 1st July and the 8th July. This will be a tough task for the men in red.
